Transportation

1. If my child has an Intra-District or Inter-District Transfer, is school bus transportation available?
No. Due to limited resources, transportation is only provided to students attending their designated home school.

2. Can my child be picked up or dropped off at a daycare location?
No. Transportation is only provided to and from the bus stop assigned to the student's registered home address.

3. Is there a program to help with the cost of transportation?
Students may qualify for free or reduced-cost transportation based on household income.

To apply, you must:

1. Complete the 2026-2027 Bus Pass Application.
2. Complete the annual Student Data Confirmation process, including the Income Verification section.

4. What forms of payment are accepted?
The Transportation Department accepts:

• Cash
• Check
• Money Order
• Major Credit Cards

5. How do I purchase transportation online?
Transportation may be purchased through the mySchoolBucks website or mobile app.

Log in to your existing account or create a new account and select Transportation Services.

If you need assistance with mySchoolBucks, please call 1-855-832-5226.

6. How long does it take to process a bus pass application?
Most online applications and payments are processed within 24-48 business hours.

Processing times may be longer during peak periods at the beginning of the school year.

Students must be fully registered at their school site before applying for transportation.

7. What happens if my child's bus pass is lost or forgotten?
Students may still be allowed to ride if the driver can verify that they are an authorized rider.

However, students who do not present a valid bus pass may receive a "No Bus Pass" citation.

8. How do I get a replacement bus pass?
Replacement bus passes are available for $5.00.

You may:

• Purchase a replacement pass in person at the Transportation Department, or
• Arrange for a replacement through the bus driver.

If purchasing through the driver, send a check or money order (no cash) in a sealed envelope labeled with:

• Student Name
• School
• Bus Stop

Checks should be made payable to TUSD Transportation Department.

9. Is transportation available for sports, tutoring, or other after-school activities?
No. Due to limited resources, transportation is only provided during regular home-to-school routes.

10. What is the difference between a route number and a bus number?
A route number identifies the route your student rides and generally remains the same throughout the year.

A bus number identifies the physical bus and may change due to maintenance or operational needs.

Students should always know their assigned route number.

Example:

• Route Number: 4
• Bus Number: 30 today, Bus Number: 2 tomorrow

The route stays the same even if the bus changes.

11. Where can I find the route number on the bus?
The route number is displayed near the entrance door on a black placard with white numbers.

12. Can I receive a refund if my student no longer needs transportation?
Prorated refunds may be available if:

• The student becomes eligible for free transportation.
• The student moves out of the District.
• The student no longer needs transportation services.

To request a refund, submit:

1. A written refund request.
2. The student's bus pass.

Refunds are calculated based on the date both items are received by the Transportation Department.

Please allow 6-8 weeks for processing.

No refund will be issued if transportation privileges are suspended due to violation of bus rules.

13. What should I do if I move to a new address within TUSD boundaries?
First, update your address with your student's school and provide any required documentation.

Once the address change has been completed with the school site, contact the Transportation Department with your updated information.

Transportation eligibility will be reviewed based on the new address. If eligible, a new bus pass will be issued.

 

TRANSPORTATION SERVICES

Tracy Unified School District provides school bus transportation as a fee-based service for eligible students within Board-approved transportation boundaries.

Transportation is provided between a student's assigned bus stop and their designated home school based on the home address registered with the school.

Because school transportation is not fully funded by the State of California, the District must charge transportation fees to help provide this service.

Please note that, except for eligible Special Education students, school transportation is not required by law. Parents and guardians remain responsible for ensuring their students attend school as required by California Education Code Section 48200.

  
APPLYING FOR A BUS PASS

Before You Apply: Students must be fully registered at their home school before submitting a bus pass application.

If your student needs transportation on the first day of the 2026-2027 school year, you should apply as early as possible.

How to Apply: Bus pass applications may be submitted:

• Online through the TUSD website
• Online through mySchoolBucks
• By mail (check or money order only)
• By fax
• In person at the Transportation Department

Please do not send cash through the mail.

Transportation staff cannot process applications or payments over the phone, and bus drivers cannot accept applications or payments for new bus passes.

FREE OR REDUCED-COST TRANSPORTATION

To Apply:

Step 1: Complete the annual Student Data Confirmation process, including Income Verification.

Step 2: Submit a 2026-2027 Bus Pass Application.

Step 3: If approved for reduced-cost transportation, submit the required payment.

Step 4: Transportation will notify you of your approval status.

Step 5: Pick up your student's bus pass from the Transportation Department.

Please note that applications cannot be processed until the Income Verification process has been completed.

STUDENT ELIGIBILITY

Students may be eligible for transportation if they:

• Attend their designated home school.
• Live within Board-approved transportation boundaries.
• Have a completed bus pass application on file.
• Have a valid 2026-2027 bus pass.
• Present and scan their bus pass each time they board and exit the bus.

Students receiving Special Education transportation services through an IEP may also qualify for transportation.

Transfer Students: Students attending a school on an Inter-District or Intra-District Transfer are not eligible for transportation, as stated in the transfer agreement.

• Jacobson Elementary School
• Kimball High School
• Monte Vista Middle School
• South/West Park Elementary School
• Tracy High School
• Villalovoz Elementary School
• West High School
• Williams Middle School

SCHOOLS NOT SERVED BY
GENERAL EDUCATION TRANSPORTATION

General Education transportation is not provided to the following schools:

• Central Elementary School
• Duncan-Russell High School
• Freiler Elementary School
• Hirsch Elementary School
• George Kelly School
• McKinley Elementary School
• North Elementary School
• Poet Christian Elementary School
• Stein High School
• Tracy Charter School
• Tracy Adult School

Special Education transportation services may be available for eligible students with an IEP.

BEFORE AND AFTER SCHOOL ACTIVITIES

Due to limited resources, transportation is not available for:

• Sports
• Tutoring
• Clubs
• Other before-school or after-school activities

Transportation is only provided during regular home-to-school bus routes.

RALLY DAY SCHEDULES

On Rally Days, buses operate on the regular school-day schedule.

All students are given the opportunity to participate in Rally Day activities, so no special transportation schedule is provided.

 PAYMENT OF BUS PASS FEES 

Applications and payment for School Bus Transportation may be submitted online, in person, or by mail to the Transportation Department.

• By fax at (209) 830-3217

Important Information:

• School Bus Drivers cannot accept bus pass applications or payments.
• Applications and payments cannot be processed over the phone.
• Bus passes will not be issued until the completed application and payment have been received and processed by the Transportation Department.
